High Court forms teams for survey on hawkers

To find a lasting solution to the problems of hawkers, the Madras High Court formed three teams to survey 10 zones in the Chennai Corporation and directed them to submit reports by March 31. The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice Prabha Sridevan, passed the order, and added that Deputy Registrars of the High Court would head the teams. The teams commenced work on Wednesday evening itself, and visited several identified areas to interact with all stakeholders. They would undertake a survey in the areas covered by the report of Justice J. Kanagaraj, and submit details on the existing number of hawkers there, the Bench said. Team A will be headed by Deputy Registrar R. Shanmugam, and will carry out survey in Zone I to III. It will comprise an Assistant Commissioner of Chennai Corporation and B. Karunanidhi, secretary of the Hawkers Federation.
