Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday called for introduction of a new high-speed train between Jaipur and Delhi in view of the rich prospects for investments and tourism in the State and the likelihood of Pink City's population crossing 50 lakh by 2025. Ms. Raje, interacting with a delegation of senior railway officers here, said the railway network in the State should be expanded to cover the backward areas devoid of railway lines. She said a new railway station at Sheodaspura near Jaipur was also needed to strengthen the link with the national capital. Railway Board's Member (Engineering), S.K. Vij, led the delegation. Ms. Raje pointed out that Jaipur was emerging as a fast developing metro and its master plan for 2025, currently being prepared, would include the requirements of railway journey for a huge population and rail link with Delhi. The Chief Minister said the present number of 80,000 railway passengers in the city was likely to increase to 2 lakh by 2025. The State Government is also looking into the possibility of constructing airport, railway station and bus terminus at a single location. In addition to the provision of train links in the satellite towns such as Bagru, Phulera, Chomu, Chaksu, etc., there was an urgent requirement for construction of as many as 34 railway overbridges across the State and five additional goods yards in Jaipur, said Ms. Raje. Mr. Vij said the railways had initiated survey for new Dungarpur-Banswara-Ratlam and Karauli-Sarmathura-Dholpur routes and agreed in principle for constructing new railway overbridges. He said the surveys would also be conducted in the backward areas with a scope for new rail links. Among others, Chief Secretary D.C. Samant, Principal Urban Development Secretary Parvinder Singh, and General Manager of North-Western Railway, Ashok Gupta, attended the meeting.
