The historical Devarayana Durga hill in Tumkur district in Karnataka with thick reserve forests is falling victim to crass commercialisation in the name of development as hundreds of trees have been cut down to widen the road to the temple atop the hill. Now it has also come to light that trees were axed illegally in the forest land apart from those cut on the revenue land over which the temple dharmadarshi committee had the right.
