The spread of the disease believed to be Chikungunya is now somewhat under control in Addu atoll, the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital has said. A large number of people had become infected with the disease during the start of this month and had to be admitted at the hospital. The Director General of the Hospital Mohamed Saeed said that compared to when the disease had begun to spread it was very much under control now. "Actually we just suspect that it's Chikungunya,' he said. "We haven't diagnosed it. Among the sick were those who had just contacted a viral fever and had neither Chikungunya nor Dengue. So we can't say for sure just how many had contacted the disease.' He said that the measures taken to control mosquitoes were most likely responsible for the decline in those contacting the disease. The suspected cases of Chikungunya were highest in Maradhoo-Feydhoo. A lot of people who were believed to have contacted the disease were admitted at the hospital which has only 12 beds.
