RS 2 lakh could have solved many of the problems this unemployed graduate was facing. But Samsher could not have lived with the guilt if had used the money. The Ambala resident had picked up a bag containing the cash by mistake. As soon as he realised that, Samsher handed it over to the police. His honesty paid off. Director Public Instruction (Schools) S K Setia promised Samsher a supervisor's job under Mid Day Meal scheme on a salary of Rs 6,000 on Thursday. Samsher had gone to Panipat for a job interview recently. When he got off the bus at Panipat, he mistook the bag of one Darshan, who was sitting next to him, to be his own as they looked similar. The bag contained Canadian and American dollars of the value of around Rs 2 lakh, a credit card, a passport and other documents of Darshan Singh, an NRI from Hoshairpur district. "When I opened the bag at night, I realised that it was not mine. Seeing all the cash and other documents I got scared. I called up one of my relatives and told him everything. On his suggestion, I went to the Punjab Police,' Samsher told Newsline. "When I got to know about the honest act and that he is unemployed, I decided to give him a job. He will be supervising the Mid Day Meal distribution in various schools,' said S K Setia. G D Pandey ADGP, Crime Branch, handed over the bag with all the belongings to Darshan Singh in front of Samsher. Samsher, however, has not yet got back his own bag, which Darshan had deposited at the Delhi ISBT police chowki after he got down there and realised that he was carrying the wrong bag.
