Hong Kong's unemployment rate for the three months to June stayed at 3.3 per cent, the same as in the previous two periods, official figures showed Thursday. The figure was unchanged from the February to April and March to May period, the Census and Statistics Department said in a statement. Total employment decreased by around 1,200 from the previous three-month period to 3.53 million the government said, but the labour forced decreased by around 1,900 to 3.65 million. Jobs were lost in the restaurant and hotels sector, as well as the communications industry, while the construction and insurance sectors saw increases, the statement said. Hong Kong's secretary for labour Matthew Cheung welcomed the figures, but said he was wary of a global economic slowdown.
