Los Angeles has long been the most polluted city in the US, but Houston appears poised to take over that dubious title. City officials said that Houstan has had 44 days in 1999 where ozone levels exceeded federal health standards, compared to 43 for Los Angeles, marking the first time that any US city has topped the City of Angels in ozone violation.
