Fearing criminal action for felling 1,400 green trees in Kullu district, the Malana Power Company today deposited Rs 63 lakh with Himachal Pradesh Forest Department as the price for the trees. The company had allegedly felled the trees spread over an area of 61 hectares at Jari village in Kullu district while setting up the 86 MW Malana Hydel Power Project between 1999 and 2000, without seeking approval for the Centre or the state government.
