Hyderabad, July 22: The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (Huda) is planning to go for another round of land acquisition. This time it is for the radial roads project, which connects the Inner Ring Road with the Outer Ring Road. Several residential, commercial and defence properties will be acquired for widening the three radial roads. These include the road from Rethi Bowli to AP Police Academy, Langar Houz to Gandipet and Biramalguda to Manneguda.
Though Huda officials claim that the land acquisition will be minimal, owners say that properties such as the Andhra Flour Mill and shops on the Langar Houz road will be affected. The land acquisition for the remaining 30 radial roads involve the property of hundreds of citizens. The GHMC and Huda have already acquired several acres for widening the Inner Ring Road and construction of the Outer Ring Road.
Mr K. Sameer, owner of an asbestos shop at Langar Houz, said, almost 70 per cent of his shop will be affected because of the widening. The city body is taking up the widening of only three radial roads in phase-I, and land acquisition for the remaining 30 radial roads will be done in subsequent phases. The three roads are all set to be widened into six-lane roads with financial assistance from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Tenders have been invited for execution of the project that is estimated to cost Rs 140 crore.
