Hunger strike protest completes a month As the hunger strike for the cause of endosulfan victims in the district completed a month here on Monday, people formed a human wall to protest against the alleged laxity of the State government in rehabilitating the affected population. Inaugurating the protest, Ambalathara Muneesa, a victim born without sight who has two postgraduate degrees, sought the resignation of N.A. Nellikunnu and P.B. Abdul Razak, MLAs from the district, for the alleged callous approach of the government. Activists of 20 organisations, including the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the All India Youth Federation, the Sunni Students Federation, the Socialist Democratic Party of India, the National Youth League, the Students Islamic Organisation, the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi and the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, were part of the human wall near the new bus station premises. Fifty mothers of endosulfan victims burned copies of the State Budget to protest against what they termed meagre allocations for the victims. Protest meetings were held across the State to express solidarity with the Endosulfan Peedhitha Janakeeya Munnani, a people’s front for the victims, which is leading the protests. Dharnas were held in Mumbai and New Delhi, where Medha Patkar, environmental activist, spoke at a function, the activists said.
