An indefinite hunger strike launched by the Endosulfan Peeditha Janakeeya Munnai (EPJM) seeking effective and swift relief and rehabilitation for hundreds of endosulfan victims and their families crossed three weeks on Monday. Environmentalist A. Mohankumar has been fasting at the strike venue for eight days. The doctors who examined him on Monday morning said his vital parameters were normal. The strike by the EPJM began on February 18. Meanwhile, the anti-endosulfan campaign committee, which had been in the forefront of the agitation against the pesticide that eventually led to the ban on the pesticide, took out a march to the district collectorate on Monday morning expressing solidarity with the EPJM’s strike. Though Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had proposed to convene a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on March 25 by involving all stakeholders to deliberate on the contentious issues raised by the agitators, the district administration here had not informed the same to the agitators, EPJM convener Ambalathara Kunhi Krishnan said.
