The Union power ministry's ambitious plan to add 50,000 megawatts of hydel power by the end of Twelfth Plan is welcome but it needs to be supported by the will to execute the plan in time. The most important problem associated with the execution of hydel power projects is time and cost overruns. If this can be tackled successfully, hydel power emerges as the most suitable for the country.
