The finance ministry has issued a notification extending income tax incentives for any government-approved programme of conservation of natural resources or of afforestation including plantation of softwood on degraded non-forest land. Following the amendments in the rules, as assessee donating any amount to an approved institution for use in setting up of such environment protection projects would be able to claim tax exemption for the amount donated.
