The International Centre for Cancer (ICC) in Leon France has come forward to assist cancer treatment in Sri Lanka as the incidence of the dreaded disease is on the rise in the country, a spokesman for the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry said yesterday. "Cancer has increased to epidemic proportions in Sri Lanka with about 3000 patients seeking treatment at the Maharagama National Cancer Institute daily,' he said. The ICC's attention to the sharp increase in cancer cases in Sri Lanka had been drawn by Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva. The studies conducted so far by the Sri Lankan medical experts have not been able to pinpoint the exact cause for the sudden increase of this life-threatening disease, the spokesman said. Minister De Silva is to present a comprehensive report on the emerging threat of cancer in Sri Lanka today at the ICC headquarters in Leon. The ICC had already provided the Institute with a Linear Accelerator Treatment Machine
