Here is some good news for the flood victims. They need not consume polluted water as they used to for days together when their drinking water sources remained submerged in floods. The scientists of the mining engineering department of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, have developed a water filter for them. The filter provides a ready solution to the problem by delivering up to 400 litres of water every day and purifying it. Moreover, it's an economy filter as each of them costs around Rs 400 and the prices would be between Rs 150 and Rs 200 if the purchases were bulk one. The head of the department, Prof Jayanta Bhattacharya, stated that the department engineers along with some students worked over a year to develop and design this filter, which they call "Kharagpur filter', to solve the drinking water problem for the flood and drought-affected people. Flood water sample shows that it is grossly unfit for human consumption when the people. They cry and clamour for drinking water, this is a common scenario in the developing countries. A similar scene was witnessed during the recent floods in Midnapore when people were seen waiting for three days for a glass of water. A three
