The Imran Khan Foundation (IKF) has successfully completed construction of homes for 350 families in Dera Ghazi Khan. DG Khan was one of the many locations devastated by the floods of 2010. The IKF launched its Village Development Programme in the DG Khan District in 2012. In less than one year, due in part to a speedy social mobilisation process and a professional construction team, the IKF in collaboration with the residents of the nine bastis on the east bank of the River Indus, some 30km from DG Khan city, built 350 homes, along with road infrastructure. These homes will accommodate over 3000 beneficiaries and it has been ensured that in the event of another flood, which is a regular occurrence in these areas, the homes made of bricks will endure. Reza Khan, one of the denizens of Basti Sikhani, told the IKF, “My home is now not just strong enough to withstand the floods but also the roof is tough enough to keep my family safe when the waters come raging through.” The Imran Khan Foundation is a non-governmental organisation, working to improve the quality of life for the unreached and underserved in Pakistan through relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction. The IKF’s principal goal is to improve the quality of life for the unreached and underserved communities by ensuring access to basic services. pr
