Illegal blasting kills 600 fish

  • 04/12/1997

Hundreds of fish have been killed by illegal dynamite fishing off Sai Kung in the past two days in Hong Kong. More than 600 fish, each about four centimetres long, have been killed and have washed up at Silverstrand beach and Sheung Sze Wan. Dynamite is used to stun large coral reef fish and force them out of their habitat as coral is shattered by the blast. In the process, smaller fish are killed.
