Illegal coal trade should stop: CPM

DURGAPUR, July 24: Following the murder of their two party men in Laudoha on Tuesday, the CPI-M is now mounting pressure on the district police on stop illegal coal mining in this belt. The party is seeking to put an end to the illegal coal smuggling, which has remained a recurring menace in this coal and industrial hub for more than a decade. The police, incidentally, has failed to nab the culprits behind the murders as yet. The police is suspecting the involvement of a sharp shooter in the crime. Mr R Rajshekharan, SP, Burdwan said: "The investigations are on and we expect a breakthrough soon.' Sheikh Farukh, a local committee member and a branch committee member of the CPI-M, Sudhir Bauri were shot dead in Laudoha while they were on their way back home after attending a party meeting at Durgapur-2 zonal committee office. Mr Amol Halder, party's district secretary said: "He was fighting against the coal mafias and had to face the consequences. It's a matter of shame. We have decided to fight against illegal coal mining. None will be spared if we see that he or his men are providing shelter to the illegal coal traffickers.' n SNS
