Illegal drilling for water is increasing in the capital due to negligence of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The water crisis has given rise to the illegal boring of wells in certain localities of Islamabad.
Scarcity of water is a continuous problem for the residents of the city and it gets even more severe during the summer season. At some places, one water-pump is supplying water to about six houses.
The CDA does not allow installation of private pumps in houses, hotels and other places.
However, the administration has not taken action against the persons carrying out illegal drilling at various places in the city.
An official of the CDA said that illegal boring in Islamabad was in total violation of CDA’s by-laws.
He said that due to illegal boring, the water level was decreasing in the capital because of which tube wells were not pumping enough water.
He said that the CDA had so far not made any plan to stop this trend, and that if action was not taken against the violators the city could face severe water problems.
The official said that in past boring was only being done inside houses but now it was also being carried out outside.
The residents of the capital have asked the civic body to take action against those violating CDA’s by-laws. app
