Amid protests from local politicians, an illegal dyeing unit was demolished by a team of revenue officials and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) personnel at Venanthur town – located more than 40 km away from River Cauvery – on Monday. It is learnt that it was functioning on the premises of a cinema for the last two months. TNPCB officials said that the cinema was remaining closed for about a year. Its owners had rented out its premises for setting up the illegal dyeing unit.
