Twelve illegal dyeing units were demolished in a drive that was conducted by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) in and around Komarapalayam town in Tiruchengode Taluk on Thursday. The drive was conducted at Thaneerpanthalkadu, Kotaimedu, Eswari Nagar, Cheran Nagar and Kamaraj Nagar. District Environmental Engineer (DEE) K. Gokuladas said that six winches, three generators and 76 masonry tanks were demolished using earth movers. “There was a pause in evicting the units due to resistance from owners of manual dyeing unit and those who rented their land for setting up the dyeing units at Thaneerpanthalkadu and Kotaimedu,” the DEE said. The drive continued with the help of Komarapalayam Police. “A request has been made to the Tiruchengode Revenue Division Officer to file criminal case on persons setting up illegal dyeing units and on persons who are renting their land for those units”, he said. TNPCB officials from Namakkal and Erode, Revenue and Police were present during the drive.
