Rapid deforestation of reserve forests neighbouring Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh foothills and of Orang, Balipara, Hugrajuly and Rowta is going on without any hindrance flying in the face of the ban imposed by the Supreme Court and the consequent initiatives taken by the State government to ban the felling of valuable trees. The insurgent outfit, National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) has also imposed a similar ban, but the ban has had no effect at all.
