Notwithstanding the ban on mining in Haryana's Aravali, members of a mining mafia attacked three persons in a nearby village in their attempt to quarry sand and clay. The incident happened on Sunday morning at Aklimpur in Aravali, situated just 10 kilometres from the main town. Three villagers identified as Gulab Chand Bhardwaj (58), Bal Kishan (38) and Bhim Bhardwaj tried to restrict the suspects from digging clay and sand from their village. But they were attacked with sharp-edged weapons instead. All the injured have been admitted to Gurgaon Civil Hospital where one of them said to be critical. Local police, however, have a different story to tell. They say the incident was a result of personal rivalry between two groups and three members of one of the groups received minor injuries in the clash. "We have taken complaints from both the side and are investigating the matter," said Rajpal, SHO of Badshahpur police station. An FIR had not been registered till the time of reporting. Sources have said that mafias involved in this illegal business have been earning anywhere between `8,000 and `10,000 for a dumper full of sand.
