NAZIRA: With the help of a few corrupt officials of forest department, a few stone quarries are illegally running at Bihubor of Nazira sub–division. It may be mentioned that Bihubor is famous as a natural reserver of stone and almost all the places of Upper Assam are dependent on Bihubor for supply of chips and boulders. The Forest department earns crores of rupees from Bihubor every year. But heavy corruption is going on in the stone fields of Bihubor. With the help of a few forest officials two influential businessmen illegally set up two stone quarries at Bihubor without any legal permit or settlement permission and are earning crores of rupees per month. But due to the corrupt forest officials, government is losing several lakhs of rupees per month. On the other hand, for their own benefit, these two businessmen are illegally collecting stones by digging upto 60 feet near the Dikhow river and all these illegal activities are going on in front of the forest beat office of Bihubor.
