IMPHAL, July 6: Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has said that Imphal city would be developed as a green city under a project to be taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission, JNRUM. The Chief Minister said this while inaugurating three bridges situated across the Nambul river in the heart of Imphal city recently. With another bridge across the Imphal river at Lamlong bazar being inaugurated by the state works minister, the State capital witnessed the inauguration of four bridges in a single day. The Chief Minister also handed over a special award to the contractor of the four bridges Ksh Chandrahas of the State Public Works Department as acknowledgement of his effort in completing the bridges within a short span of six months. Mention may be made that the bridges remained incomplete for a long time after the former contractors were left unable to take up the necessary construction in time due to external disturbances. But once the construction process was taken over by special contractor Chandrahas, the bridges were completed within the stipulated time. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also said that currently, various developmental projects in progress within Imphal city are covered by the JNRUM scheme, adding that various other schemes are in hand under which other projects will be taken up soon. Listing the construction of multi-storeyed parking site and drains from Khoyathong upto Keishampat under JNURM's Imphal city beautification programme and replacement of water pipes in the capital area as some of the upcoming development schemes, the chief minister exuded confidence that on completion of these projects, people would be greatly relieved from numerous forms of inconveniences. He also said that the garbage collection system in the capital city would be expanded to cover more important locations.
