The Lahore High Court has issued notices to Deputy Attorney General in a petition filed by President Lawyer Welfare Forum Muqtadir Akhtar Shabir, against increase in CNG prices. The court had issued notices to Federation of Pakistan and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas but no one appeared before the court here on Wednesday. The petitioner has challenged the exorbitant and unauthorised charging CNG prices by CNG dealers. He argued that all CNG stations are selling CNG at the rates determined by them and not by the Federal Ministry for Petroleum and Natural Gas. He further argued that CNG stations are selling the gas at exaggerated rates and charging 200 to 300 percent profits from the consumers. He said it is the duty of the government to provide basic amenities and utilities to the people of Pakistan at reasonable and cost effective rates. He further submitted that all this is in violation of Article 9, 14, 24, and 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan and argued that Government of Pakistan should take action against such violations and give relief to the people of Pakistan.
