Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Saturday formally launched the Cauvery IV Stage, II Phase drinking water supply project, to increase the existing supply of water for Bangalore by 500 MLD. Scheduled to be completed in 2011, the Cauvery water will be drawn from Shiva Anicut (100 kms from Bangalore) and will be pumped to Bangalore through three main stations of Torekadanahalli, Harohalli and Tataguni. The raw water (untreated river water) will be treated in all these three stations, where separate reservoirs will be built for the purpose. The project will be implemented in two components -- water supply and sewerage -- at an estimated cost of Rs 3,384 crores.
