India has complained to the Montreal Protocol Fund (MPF) that while other sectors consuming ozone depleting substances (ODSs) have been sanctioned aid to implement the phase-out plan, the solvent sector has been left out. It has accused vested interests in industrialised countries of trying to block the aid flow.According to sources, the multinational companies do not want the production and use of carbon tetrachloride (CTC), used as a solvent in making chlorofluorocarbon(CFC), to be phased out.So far $43 million has been granted as aid to 177 projects to facilitate the phase out.
