INDAL Aluminium Co(Indal) and the environmentalists are at loggerheads over the restart of their bauxite mining operations in the lush Western Ghat forests of Maharashtra. While environmentalists claim that the mine lies in the Dajipur Bison Sanctuary, Radhanagari, Indal contests this and says that they have a valid lease for the area which lies outside the sanctuary.Maharashtra-based environmentalists like Mamta Sahgal and Neeraj Vagholikar are protesting as they say these are the priestine forests which serve as the source of water for hundreds of villages and down stream reservoirs.
