UN : India is home to the maximum number of illiterates in the world. The country's illiterate population exceeds the total population of the United States, Japan and Canada. India also has the largest number of children out of primary schools. These facts were listed in a report, "Human Development in South Asia," released on Saturday by the United Nations.
