India-Nepal cooperation on hydro-electric projects

The recent visit of King Gynendra Bir Bikram Shah of Nepal to India culminated in the signing of two Letters of Understanding on mutual cooperation - in the areas of Tourism and Water Resources -between the two countries Chambers of Commerce. With nearly 6000 rivers and streams flowing from Nepal to India, carrying 174 billion cubic metres of water per year, hydropower is an area that has been identified as having immense potential for coopeartion between the two countries.
