France said on Wednesday that it recognises India as a nuclear weapons state and that New Delhi is the "best candidate" for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. "We recognise facts and it is a fact that your country (India) is very advanced in the nuclear field... youso proved your weapon capability...that India nuclear power is not a mystery anymore," former French Prime Minister and Speaker of the National Assembly Laurent Fabius said at a press conference. Mr Fabius was answering a direct question on whether France recognises India as a nuclear weapons state.
