An influential US lawmaker, who has been a long-time campaigner against child labour, has acknowledged progress by India and Pakistan in alleviating the problem. Senator Tom Harkin said the two South Asian countries, "compared to where they were when I started this in 1992, have come a long way." He was speaking at a function to unveil a department of labour report outlining action being undertaken to reduce child exploitation in 16 countries.
