India plans to test longer-range nuclear missile later this year

India is developing the Agni III, an advanced version of its most sophisticated nuclear-capable missile, and scientists are seeking to test-fire it later this year, the defense minister said. "The test firing of Agni III is overdue and we feel the need for that long range missile as part of our policy of deterrence', Defense Minister George Fernandes was quoted as saying by Press Trust of India.
