A Central core team visited the area where the Pareechu river enters India before it joins the Spiti and decided that the Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL) would set up a gauge site at Samdoh. The team will submit its estimations on how long the artificial lake, formed due to a landslide on the Pareechu in Tibet, is going to hold up. This Samodh site, about 39 km downstream from the lake, would give authorities lead time in gauging the substantial increase of flow in the river. This gauge site, 150 km from the Nathpa Jhakri project's dam and 180 km from the Nathpa Jhakri powerhouse, is expected to give SJVNL authorities about two hours to put into effect emergency measures.
