India has once again informed developed nations that it is ready to contribute to the global efforts against climate change in accordance with the principles of common "but differentiated responsibility'. Urging the Group of Eight (G-8) nations to take up the leadership role in shaping the international action on climate change, India has said that "leap-frogging' to a low-carbon pathway is not easy as it involves substantial economic and financial costs. India said that it endorses the issue of "co-benefits' approach as it is integral to sustainable development. At the recently-concluded outreach meeting of the G-8 environment ministers and 10 developing nations in Kobe, Japan, minister of state for environment and forests Namo Narain Meena said that sustainable development is the key for long-term protection of climate. Speaking to this correspondent, the MoS said: "We are committed to bringing down our greenhouse gas emission levels but development and poverty eradication is our priority.'
