Even though regulatory measures under the Montreal Protocol of 1987 to control consumption and production as also import and export of the ozone depleting substances(ODSs) are to come into force from July 1, no supporting legislation has been made by India as yet. These regulations seek to ban and gradually cut down consumption and production of the ODSs within a rigid timeframe so as to eliminate their usage by 2010.
