Indore declared town of exports excellence

Indore has become the first city in the state to have been declared as a Town of Exports Excellence. An announcement to this effect was made by Union commerce and industry minister, Kamalanth here on Tuesday. Showering the Union government's largesse on Indore, Kamalnath said that declaration of Indore as a town of exports excellence, will boost up export activities in the region.
The city will also have an office of the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and it will be headed by an official of the deputy director general level. Kamalnath also announced to set up a Centre for Perishable Commodities at Indore airport which has already been declared as an international airport. For this purpose, a facility of cold storage will be developed near the airport. Setting up of this centre in Indore, will help storage of perishable products in this part of the country. The Union Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 5 crore for this purpose.
Talking to media persons at Indore Press Club, the Union commerce and industry minister announced to open an industrial cluster in Indore. In this regard, a delegation from the Central Government will soon visit the city. Besides, a skill development centre in leather sector will also be opened in the city with a view to providing employment opportunities to the unskilled and semi-literate people.
Kamalnath said that an international trade fair will also be organized in Indore in 2008-09 on the pattern of New Delhi International Trade Fair. He also announced a grant of Rs 5 crore for further development of infrastructure at Indore SEZ.
