Institute finds CFC substitute

In a major development, the Hyderabad-based Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) has announced that it will release a new technology for the development of HFC-134A, a substitute for the ozone depleting substance CFC-12, during 1999.This will make India only the fifth country in the world to have the sophisticated technlogy which provides a solution to the complicated and difficult challenge of checking depletion of the ozone layer.The development of HFC-134, which was launched in 1994 at the IICT, has now entered the final phase.
