Preparation of a master plan for Madurai tourism has gained momentum with all stakeholders - government departments, civic body, temple authorities and hospitality industry - rallying to piece together an integrated plan. The Commissioner of Tourism, Sanwat Ram, has written to the Collector, T. Udayachandran, to prepare a 'tourism master plan,' incorporating the existing facilities, facilities required, time needed to implement the plan and pattern of funding, details of land required and a rough cost estimate. Madurai is one of the few districts to have a Tourism Committee in place. Several suggestions were put forth to make Madurai, a much desirable tourist destination at a meeting chaired by Mr. Udayachandran in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
