International ozone preservation day today

AHMEDABAD: Focusing on the harmful effects of ozone layer depletion, the Gujarat Council of Science City (GCSC), Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat will, on Tuesday, organise various activities as a part of Ozone Awareness Programme to mark the 'International Day for Preservation of the Ozone Layer' on Tuesday.
With the goal of continuing the awareness and monitoring of the condition of the ozone layer, the United Nations has designated September 16 as international day for the preservation of the Ozone Layer. The GCSC has organised an exhibition , slide and film show and scientific interaction, aimed at sensitising visitors about the science of ozone layer.
Senior Scientist, GCSC, Narotam Sahoo said, "Ozone is very rare in our atmosphere , averaging about three molecules for every 10 million air molecules. In spite of this, it plays a vital role in the atmosphere."
UN to launch ozone education pack:
On the International Ozone Day on Tuesday, UNEP, UNESCO, UNICEF and WHO are launching a new ozone action education pack for secondary schools titled 'High Sky' .
This guide includes books for students and teachers."The education pack explains the problem, and encourages children to find practical solutions. Through this initiative, UNEP is giving a strong message to save the planet," says UNEP's executive director Achim Steiner.
