The Himachal Pradesh government today cleared nine new industrial projects, bringing in additional investment of nearly Rs 1,095 crore in the state, which will mostly be concentrated in the industrial belts of Solan, Sirmaur and Una districts. The proposals were cleared at a meeting of the state-level single window clearance and monitoring authority, held here this afternoon. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who is also chairman of the authority, and also holds industrial charge, presided over the meeting. Some of the projects cleared today also form part of the expansion plans started by existing industrial houses to avail benefits of tax holidays and central excise concessions. A government spokesman said after the meeting that the new projects will generate employment avenues for over 3,100 persons. Some of the proposals cleared include those of M/s Met Trade India Limited, which would be investing Rs 497.87 crore, and the units will generate employment for 681 persons. Plaza General Cable Energy Limited would invest Rs 142 crore and employ 210 persons. "There are many such others, who are going to make heavy industrial investments and add to the state's ongoing industrial development. The state-level single window authority has cleared more than 10,866 proposals and permitted expansion of 318 additional projects in the past five years. There are chances of generating employment avenues for 3.79 lakh persons,' said a government spokesperson today. However, keeping in view dangers to the environment, Dhumal said, "The government will not permit those industrial proposals will have high pollution, large power consumption and low employment generation potential. All these projects have been put under the negative list.' He said proposals from a number of multinational companies were pouring in for investing in different industrial activities which were being scrutinised and processed for approval on merit. The state has the best climactic conditions conducive to information and biotechnology industrial activities.
