The Cauvery Management Board issue is all set to subvert the peaceful life in Tamil Nadu in days to come, according to senior intelligence officials in the State. The Opposition sponsored bandh on Thursday is expected to throw normal life out of gear as the DMK has given an all out shutdown call in Tamil Nadu. The latest causality of the Cauvery agitation could be the Indian Premier League (IPL) as T Velmurugan, leader of Tamizhaga Vazhvurumai Katchi, a chauvinist group who is also an expert in organising agitations for public causes declared on Wednesday that his outfit would not allow the authorities to stage the matches in Tamil Nadu. “The decision of the Centre not to constitute the CMB has robbed Tamil people of their due water quota and as a mark of protest we will not allow the IPL to be staged in Tamil Nadu,” Velmurugan, a supporter of Tamil Eelam, told reporters at Chennai. All major political parties barring the AIADMK and the BJP are taking part in the bandh. The run up to the bandh saw activists of the DMK, CPI(M), CPI, Congress and TTV Dinakaran-led AMMK staging demonstrations in front of important airports, railway stations, bus stations and thoroughfares all over Tamil Nadu. M K Stalin, working president of the DMK continued his erbal onslaught against the AIADMK and the BJP for the delay in constituting the CMB. “The Edappady Palaniswamy Government is afraid of taking a tough posture against the Narendra Modi-led Government at the Centre. That’s why the Tamil Nadu Government is hesitant in convening an all party meeting and passing a resolution condemning the Centre for its failure in implementing the Supreme Court order,” said Stalin. PR Pandian, a farmer leader, pleaded with the Government to postpone the IPL matches scheduled in Tamil Nadu as the situation in the State is not conducive for an entertainment show. “We are all engaged in a fight against the BJP and hence will not get time to watch the IPL matches. Hence the matches may be postponed till the Cauvery issue is settled,” said Pandian.
