ANKUSH SINGH Posers on canal project Jamshedpur, Sept. 7: Four large and medium irrigation projects of the state water resources department in Kolhan have failed to take off in the absence of land clearance from the forest department. While the Sunwa, Jharjhara and Natki projects fall under West Singhbhum, the Suru project is located in Seraikela-Kharsawan. When complete, these projects would provide irrigation facilities to more than 20,000 hectares in the two districts. The water resources and forest departments have now constituted a joint team for removing land hurdles in these projects. All the four projects were cleared during 1998-2003. While the land acquisition process for few of the projects have made some headway, the water resources department is still not aware about the present state of forestland clearance for the Sunwa project.
