Irsa to release water according to provinces' needs

The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has decided to release water to the provinces according to their needs, but the provinces have expressed reservation over cut in the water quota. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Irsa, held here on Monday. The meeting was presided over by its Chairman Bashir Ahmed Dahar. The Irsa Advisory Committee directed the provinces to produce their new plan of their actual requirement of water supply to Irsa within the next 48 hours so that the new strategy will be devised. The advisory committee of Irsa reviewed the water scarcity situation and took decision accordingly. The meeting was told that the country is presently facing scarcity of 20,000 cusecs water due to delay in monsoon rains. The meeting was told that overall water inflow from various reservoirs recorded on Monday was at 281678 cusecs. The water level at Tarbela Dam recorded on Monday was at 1508.90 feet. The present water level at the dam is 139.9 feet higher than the dead level of 1369 feet. Water inflow at the dam was recorded at 164200 cusecs while outflow was also 164200 cusecs. The water level at Mangla Dam was recorded at 1180.60 feet which was 140.6 feet higher than the dead level of 1040 feet. The water inflow at the dam was recorded at 24825 cusecs while outflow was also 15000 cusecs. The contribution of Kabul and Chenab was recorded at 37300 cusecs and 55353 cusecs, respectively.
