The Supreme Court has issued notices to the DDA vice-chairperson and Delhi forest officials over encroachment in the Jahanpanah forests of South Delhi. The notices have been sent in response to a contempt petition filed by an NGO, Friends of Jahanpanah City Forest, in February this year. The NGO alleged that trees were being chopped despite a 1991 directive by SC to protect the forest. A bench comprising Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Justice B.N. Agrawal issued the notices.
