The Jaisalmet district administration is planning to tax touristis to raise funds, which could be invested in developing tourism in the desert city. Given the low budget allocation for tourism development, the district authorities have decided to set up a "Jaisalmer development fund" for which "tourism cess" would be collected from tourists visiting the 700-year-old city.
