Jakarta warning over fires

Indonesia has warned plantation owners that they have two weeks to extinguish numerous fires blamed for blanketing Sumatra and Borneo with smoke or risk up to 15 years to jail. For weeks, plantation fires have discharged choking smoke over the isalands of Sumatra and Borneo, leading to fears of a repeat of the 1997 disaster when Indonesiafires threw smog over much of south-east Asia for monthss and air quality fell to dangerous levels.
