After helping people and the police mount surveillance and keep a tab on the activities of criminals and anti-social element, closed-circuit television cameras have now found an innovative use in the Delhi Jal Board which has started using them to identify the deposition of silt and leakage in its pipelines. Informing that the use of CCTV cameras for the purpose has started, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Sunday that their installation would not only help in cleaning the choked sewers but also lead to reduction in accidents. Speaking at the inauguration of an underground reservoir and booster pumping station at Burari in North Delhi , the Chief Minister said while it is the responsibility of the DJB to supply water and ensure its equitable distribution, water conservation must be made every consumer's mission. "An open mind and even a cultural change is needed in this regard,' she said.
