A Japanese researcher says he has found bacteria which gobble up plastic in his back garden, opening the way to a new solution for the country's overloaded rubbish heaps. The research was led by scientist Yoshito Otake of the Chemicals Inspection and Testing Institute, Japan, in collaboration with five private sector companies.
